Reports from Thailand

27 February 2008

So, Boy made it back from the forest 'war' safely -- only little injuries on his hands and feet. So, thanks for praying! We both appreciate it so much!

He was unable to come home this week -- didn't find out until he gave the slip of paper to his commander to sign before everyone went to change to go home. He was the only one to stay (of the 150 new guys). Hopefully he'll be able to come home this weekend though. Please pray for that.

Also please be praying for his freedom. I can't give any details here but you can email me for more info. if you wish.

Thanks so much for your continued prayers and support. As the song that's been going 'round and 'round in my head goes, "The sun will come out tomorrow . . ." God is a good God!!

A "PLEASE PRAY" request from Boy (and Jeri, too)

Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support! We're nearing the end of the Air Force prayer needs but yesterday, Boy asked me to ask everyone we know to pray for him.

Early this morning, he left for the forest to practice full-on war for the week. It's like a final of everything that he's learned -- and it's in a very intense situation!

In an effort to keep this short, please pray for . . .
- Boy's safety
- Boy's strength (physical, mental, spiritual)
- Boy's ability to do what is needed from him
- patience amist the 'war' and without being able to talk to each other at all

I am also praying for his invisibility, especially with the horrible commander who has beat him so much.

For me, it's finals week. I'm also holding some 'extra help' class sessions and meeting with students one-on-one. It's nice to know that the week is set up to go by quickly.

Also, just so you know, Boy was able to come home for 22 hours from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon! Go God!!

Update and PLEASE pray!!

Boy was able to, after many confusing events, come home for the weekend!

Everyone was told that once the war training and testing was done on Wednesday, they could go home before their week training in the forest. That turned out to be a lie. But, Boy didn't give up hope that there would be some way that he could come home for a rest before more craziness started.

Boy is well-known to everyone at the Air Force (mostly because of his relationship with me). So, on Friday morning, he was asked to leave with his commander and his high leader to run some errands outside. While outside, they asked him if he wanted to go home. Of course, his answer was "Yes!" They replied that because his house is so close (a five minute walk from the base), he could go home for Saturday and Sunday. He asked if he could go home Friday night if all of his work was done because not much happens in the evenings. The leader laughed and told him that he could go home Saturday.

Still excited, he worked hard to get everything done once he got back to the base. At lunch time, his leaders called him over and told him that there was too much work to do over the weekend and he wouldn't be able to go home after all. This was a total blow to the both of us but Boy decided that he would try one more time.

At about 6:00, there was a pounding knock on our front door. It was Boy. He had been told later in the afternoon that he could, in fact, go home but had many things to do to get ready so he was unable to borrow a friend's phone (his phone died a week ago) to update me. And, as soon as he was given his slip of paper allowing him to leave, he ran out of the gate, all the way home, never once looking back (just incase the leaders changed their minds again).

So, we got to spend a wonderful weekend together. Seeing that we both have "Quality Time" as our Love Languages, this time was really needed! It was really difficult saying 'goodbye' last night because Boy knew that he had to go back to being treated like a robot or animal (depending on who his commander is).

So, we would really appreciate your prays for the following:
- That this week of gun training will go well -- he has to work with the horrible leader again. Tonight, he has to stand watch (usually he gets the 10pm-2am shift).
-That we will both be able to forget that Thursday is our first Valentine's Day together. We've promised to celebrate whenever he can get home next but it could still be difficult because of others around us!
- That Boy might be able to come home again next weekend. That would be another really special treat!
- If Boy can't come home, that I will be able to go visit him at the normal (yet often taken away) times.
- That next week in the forest will go well.

And, most important for the future, . . .
- That Boy will be able to get his freedom. We believe that God really wants him out for good. So, that's exciting. But, the chance to get out is only 2 weeks away so it's getting a little stressful on trying to understand the HOW. Please pray that when Boy and his mom talk with the high leader, that he will be understanding to Boy's situation, will be accepting of what Boy has to offer, and will let him go without any problem. It would be soooo nice to have something go well for us without the stress that we so often experience!
- That we will both be strong and have patience through this all and trust that God will get him his freedom soon!

Thanks so much! We both really appreciate all of your prayers and support!
